Blizzard’s New Franchise: Overwatch

(c) Blizzard

What’s that? I haven’t updated in forever? Yes, I know. I’d make excuses, but that would waste all of our time. So, let’s dig into the new feast I brought us.

If you know me, you probably know that I play WoW. Like, it could totally have been my part time job for a while there. I love Blizzard Games. Been playing them for a while, and since I’m more of a laid back style of playing, there isn’t much that they could do to upset me while I’m apparently throwing my money at them. So, today, for the first time in what seems like forever, they have announced a new IP at Blizzcon.

From the trailer, which I’ll add to this later, it seems like a cross between TF2 and some of the other Blizzard games. There’s a zany cast of characters and like everything Blizzard does, an air of overpoweredness.

I’ll add more posts giving more info after I get back from work. But, until then, I might update with a few things from mobile. So, if the next posts I pop up look different, that’s because I was trying to send them from my phone and they will probably suck. But, Blizzcon is like a holiday for me.

Something Relatively New for you guys this time…

Ok folks, I’ve got something relatively new for you guys. Here’s something new from my current artist obsession. Spark Master Tape: Proprecia. It’s a banger, great for bumping loud in the headphones or car. One of the reasons that I love listening to most of Spark’s music is that it reminds me of old rap. It’s loud and it just rolls in the ride. It’s great music.  But, you don’t have to take my word for it:

Play it loud,

13 Presents The List: The Top Ten Albums of 2013

Hey folks,

It’s that time of year again. The time when I take all the music that I listened to in the past year and present to you my list of the best. I know I haven’t updated in a VERY long time, and honestly, I don’t think that’s going to change. Whereas XIV still updates when he can, I have found that maintaining the blog regularly is just not something I can make work for myself. So from here on out, this will primarily be XIV’s blog. That said, I may pop up from time to time, especially when I post my yearly top ten lists, which I intend to continue making for the foreseeable future.

This year, in addition to a music list, there will also be a movie list. I published the first of my movie lists last year after watching 44 films but did not publish it to this website because at the time we were still strictly covering music here. Since we have now expanded the format to different forms of entertainment, I am happy to present them both here. I went all out this year, watching and considering 60 films before whittling the list down to 10. So that’s something else to look forward to!

I really do appreciate everyone who follows the blog and I thank you for hanging with us even when we weren’t consistent.

The 8th annual edition of “The List” will be heading your way starting tomorrow. Like last year, it will be released in four separate entries, beginning with #10 and counting down to #1. See you back here then!

Brand New Makeover! Couple of Policy Changes Too!

Howdy Folks!

You can probably see that 13andXIV got a bit of a makeover. Yeah, I was a bit tired of looking at the same background over and over again. I’m gonna be doing a few weeks with this theme and it might be permanent it might change to something completely different. But,that’s only 1 of the 3 changes the site is going through. I felt pigeonholed into doing a certain type of post and not really feeling like posting if I didn’t have any real music to play for you guys. But, that’s changing. Somewhat. 13andXIV is going to morph into a review blog.  We’re going to review whatever we want. Mostly it will still be music, but occasionally it will be Movies, some concerts, and maybe some food. XIV might even do video games (highly unlikely!) Going to throw a few ideas around but the overall goal is to update regularly to keep the site from stagnating because 1 post a month is unacceptable.

The third major change is really obvious, We added a bunch of categories and tags with the new update. Updated all the old posts so that you can easily navigate to an artist you like just by clicking their name on the sidebar. Those will be helpful when the site explodes into post time. Well, I’ll see you guys on the other side.

How has the soundtrack of your lives been friends? Did you alter the tune by adding an accompanying instrument? Did you rush the exposition all the way to the coda? Or did you drown your sorrows with joy or vice versa? Fret not my friends, today my soundtrack appeals to the  more somber side of life. I’m going to do this through some BGMs from some of my favorite video games. The second one is from my favorite game of all time. The first is from a game I haven’t played in a while, but while doing today’s post, I decided to change the post entirely to get this one on there. Also, it gave me cause to add this other one to the mix.

School’s back in session so there isn’t as much time to just chill and surf youtube or Spotify your reality. Not many people really understand the impact that music has on your everyday life. Jingles, jangles, the tunes on the radio, and the even the sound of crickets chirping. So much music out there. I’m going to try to get you just a taste of the sound I heard yesterday, today. Every day I can. After all, It’s the soundtrack to your life, I’d love to influence it with a sample of mine. More after the break…

13 or XIV Days of Christmas, and The Beginning of the Hunger

Okay, so where did we leave off? Ah, We did a wonderful Coating Records session and the we seemed to disappear with the paint still on the spindle. Rest assured, although the paint dried and we left the records on the table, we’re just beginning to get back the feeling in our fingers but that’s only the first part. School is winding down to a close because the holidays are fast approaching. That means, more music flooding your ears. And that gives us the opportunity to give a bit of ear candy to some people.

13 or XIV days of Christmas!

Sometimes over the next 27ish days, we’re going to go over 14 different songs dedicated to people (or perhaps code names of people) who helped us out throughout our lives with songs that either remind us of them or bring the light to our heads over them. So, stay tuned!

Coating Records 1: “Human Again” by Ingrid Michaelson

Welcome to Coating Records!

Coating Records is what I think we’ll be calling this review section from now on. It’s called “Coating” because we’ll be rating them with a color scale. It’s a relatively simple system. Here’s the breakdown:

Grading Scale:

  • Records are graded on a 1-12 scale.
  • These numbers are then converted to a 5 color coating system.
  • 1-3 is Copper
  • 4-6 is Bronze
  • 7-9 is Silver
  • 10-11 is Gold
  • 12 is Platinum
  • 13 can give up to 6 points
  • XIV can give up to 6 points
